A Tring-based restaurant will close its doors for the first time in ten years as it prepares to undergo a major overhaul which will see its kitchen extended and serving area redesigned.
The Akeman, based at No. 9 Akeman Street, will temporarily cease service to incorporate a vacant neighbouring shop at No. 10.
The venue expansion will see the restaurant and bar increase the size of its kitchen and create space for a wood-fired oven.
Malcolm Schooling, Oakman Inns’ property director, said: “The spatial dynamics of No. 10 are quite different. A single opening for customers is formed between the fireplace area of No. 9 and the new front area of No. 10. A small curved bar servery is being installed to provide a complete bar offering for our guests in what will create an area full of cosy corners and the opportunity to hold semi private parties and events.”
Newly-appointed general manager, Eamonn Borg-Neal, added: “Our head chef, Conor McKinney, is looking forward to creating a wider range of dishes in our newly designed-kitchen. He’ll still be focusing on our Mediterranean-inspired flavours and charcoal-grilled dishes, but the addition of the traditional wood-fired oven means we can offer an even more family-friendly menu including a new range of hand-crafted, authentic pizzas.”
Before The Akeman re-opens on Saturday November 11, Borg-Neal is looking to increase his team to 40 full and part-time staff.
